This book tells the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Jonathan is not like the other seagulls. Jonathan loves to fly and do tricks. The other seagulls did not like him because of this. In their eyes Jonathan was an outcast. Jonathan's father saw him doing tricks and told him not to do them any more. Jonathan said he wouldn't but eventually he could not resist. Jonathan was embarrassed at a seagull meeting and was told to leave every one else alone. Sullivan, an older seagull, saw Jonathan and how good he was and took him to another place where good flyers lived. Sullivan taught all he knew to Jonathan and Jonathan loved it. However, Jonathan began to miss his earlier life. He then asked Sullivan if he could go back down to beach where he lived previously. Reluctantly, Sullivan said yes so that Jonathan could help others fly. Jonathan began to help others like him and then everyone wanted to fly like Jonathan did. This teaches the students to never give up on their dreams.
