Summary: This book tells the story of the Negro League baseball. The story is of gifted athletes and determined owners. It also discusses racial discrimination and international sportsmanship. It also discusses triumphs and defeats on and off the field. It is a mirror of the social history of black America in the first half of the twentieth century. The story of the Negro League tells the story of how heroes overcame segregation, terrible conditions and hatred by playing ball. This book also has great illustrations and does a great job at telling the story. This book would be great when teaching African-American history. It could also be to talk about the history of baseball.
